Silver Rate in India Today
Silver in India is quoted per gram and per kilogram, and most bulk buying is done by the kilo. The rate shown on this page is the international spot price converted into rupees, with import duty, GST and the local dealer premium added on top — the same build-up a bullion dealer applies before quoting you a counter rate.
Because silver is a far cheaper metal than gold by weight, small moves in the international price show up as large rupee swings per kilogram. A change of just ₹2 per gram is ₹2,000 on a one-kilogram bar.
Silver Purity: 999, 925 and 900
Silver is not measured in karats. Its purity is quoted as fineness — parts of pure silver per thousand.

Pure 999 silver is soft, so anything meant to be worn or handled daily is alloyed — usually with copper — which is why sterling silver is the standard for jewellery.
What Moves the Silver Price
- International spot price — silver trades globally in US dollars per troy ounce.
- The USD–INR rate — a weaker rupee raises the Indian price even when the dollar price is flat.
- Import duty and GST — silver is imported, so duty plus 3% GST is built into every retail quote.
- Industrial demand — roughly half of all silver is consumed by industry: solar panels, electronics, EVs and brazing alloys. This is the biggest difference from gold.
- Investment demand — coins, bars and silver ETFs, often tracked against the gold-to-silver ratio.
- Festive and wedding demand — seasonal buying tightens local supply and widens dealer premiums.
