The stages are similar — draft filing, review, final prospectus with price band and dates, then the bidding window — but timelines can be short and details are often confirmed close to the open. Because SME disclosures are lighter and coverage is thin, the upcoming window is your best chance to study the company before the rush.
Extra diligence is essential
SME companies are smaller and younger, so raise your research bar. Read the DRHP end to end rather than skimming, and pay special attention to the three-year financial trend, cash flows, customer and revenue concentration, related-party transactions, promoter background and how much promoters are selling. The minimum application is large — typically ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh per lot — so a single SME bet can be a big part of a retail portfolio. Be honest about whether you could exit easily after listing, given the low liquidity of SME shares.
Prepare to apply
Keep a demat and trading account ready, test your UPI ID, and ensure your bank supports IPO mandates. Maintain enough balance for the large SME application to be blocked, remembering it is debited only on allotment. Because SME issues can be announced and opened quickly, following this list and each company's page closely is the best way to avoid missing an issue you have researched.
