From DRHP to listing
Every mainboard IPO moves through a defined path. The company first files a Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with SEBI, which reviews it and issues observations — a process that can take weeks to months. The company then files the Red Herring Prospectus (RHP) with the final price band and dates, holds the anchor allocation a day before opening, and runs the bidding window. Because a SEBI approval is valid for a limited period, an announced mainboard IPO can still be delayed or rescheduled, so treat every date as tentative until the RHP confirms it.
Why research early
Mainboard companies are large and well-documented, which makes the upcoming window the ideal time to do your homework. Read the DRHP for the objects of the issue, the three-year revenue and profit trend, the valuation the company is seeking relative to listed peers, promoter background and holding, and the disclosed risk factors. Note whether the issue is a fresh issue that funds the business or an offer for sale that mainly gives existing shareholders an exit. By the time the IPO opens, your decision should already be made.
Prepare to apply
Keep a demat and trading account ready, link and test your UPI ID, and make sure your bank supports IPO mandates — last-day mandate failures are a common reason applications are missed. Maintain enough balance for the amount to be blocked, remembering it is debited only on allotment. Watch the anchor book disclosed a day before the open: strong, marquee anchor demand is one of the earliest signals of institutional confidence in a mainboard issue.
